My Role Repertoire

Frank Sinatra, in one of his performed songs, “That’s Life,” sings: “I’ve been a puppet, a pirate, a pauper, a poet, a pawn and a king,” —and the song goes on. I realized I, too, have played many roles: I am a fairly good ballroom dancer—or at least I was—a folk and square dancer for many years, a theatre-club performer-singer, a folk singer at song fests, a singer of kids’ songs as a camp counselor, an poor ice skater and diver (in college), a teacher of many things for our lifelong learning center, an author of books and articles on psychodrama, an editor of anthologies relating to action methods in psychotherapy and life, a husband in a happy marriage, a loving grandfather, father, cousin, family man, a cartoonist, a blog poster for many years, a tiny bit of a piano player, a voracious book-reader, a poet, a bit of a wacko in the right proportions…while my roles as physician, psychiatrist, and medical school teacher is fading.
