Sensitive Perception
Originally posted on July 8, 2015
What if some people are more sensitive than others, and pick up more stuff? We know about tetrachromats, a small minority of people who are sensitive to not three basic colors (like most people) but rather four (tetre) colors! This sensitivity allows for a richer perceptual field, more permutations than most people. What if this is true for all the senses, including those most people don’t have?
In this cartoon the cartoonist speculates in visual format about the sense of smell. But what if a fair number of people who are ashamed of their sensitivity—it’s “so” abnormal— are simply a part of an as-yet-unnamed group who are indeed sensitive to certain kinds of stimuli? Just sayin’.
