Being Apophatic
Originally posted on May 1, 2015
According to the online free dictionary, apophatic is defined as “of or relating to the belief that God can be known to humans only in terms of what He is not (such as `God is unknowable’). I take it as a confession that puny human brains can never know, and I hold to this. I don’t doubt that some mystics apprehend the More in various forms, and think they’ve seen the one God of a trillion galaxies, but I think what they experienced was maybe a few levels up—even a few score levels—but not the All in All. So anyway, I’m pretty apophatic about all this, which doesn’t stop me from speculating. I know that I cannot know—please know this! Haha!
