I like that they improvise, and do it so well. One of my mentors, the noted philosopher <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Hartshorne\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Hartshorne<\/a>, was also an <a href=\"http:\/\/www25.uua.org\/uuhs\/duub\/articles\/charleshartshorne.html\" target=\"_blank\">ornithologist<\/a> who wrote a book titled \u201cBorn to Sing.\u201d He suggested that while birds may not have much capacity for reflective thought, they do have an aesthetic sense, and he loaned me a record with numerous of the more musical bird-songs on it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blatner.com\/adam\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/mockingbirdsong84.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"mockingbirdsong84\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"mockingbirdsong84\" src=\"http:\/\/blatner.com\/adam\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/mockingbirdsong84_thumb.jpg\" width=\"348\" height=\"405\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I thereupon listened to the more common species of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/northern_mockingbird\/id\" target=\"_blank\">Mimus Polyglottos<\/a>, the mockingbird, which has charmed me all my life, during my youth in Los Angeles and now in Texas.
