Folk Songs

I was lucky enough to live through the era of folk songs and learned thousands of songs, folk songs, kids’ songs, ballads, funny songs, rounds, Broadway tunes, etc. folksinger

Although the cartoon strip portrays an old geezer in a nursing home, most of the old geezers I know are independent! They live on farms, are still working, and or doing lots of activities in retirement communities. We held song fests in my homes. In the early 1960s we called them “hootenannies!” (see Singing for the Fun of It on my website.) Some songs are painfully dated, singing of social norms in courtship and other things that kids today wouldn’t get at all; but some sing of “moonlight and love songs, never out of date”—archetypes of life that are hardly time-bound.
